I am so ready to have the construction crew out of my house for good. Honestly, the biggest perk of doing home improvements yourself isn’t the money you save — it’s being able to stop in the middle of a project and make a sandwich in your own kitchen without worrying about getting in someone’s way.
Sunday:
Someone made some poor choices
Really tired of gymnastics nursing
Monday:
Still asleep when it’s time to leave for camp
Book Barn adventures
Why do we even own toys?
Tuesday:
I swear I’ve taken this photo every week all summer
Watching for ugly fish
Littlest aquarium fan
Wednesday:
He refused to move until I took his picture
You can see through my walls
Thursday:
Playing in the water
Waiting for the bridge to go up
I took a photo so I could buy an identical diverter and still got the wrong one
Friday:
No stop don’t run away
I don’t know what’s behind me
Being an A+ big sister
Saturday:
Seussian shenanigans
Thing 1 and Thing 2
Super cool art and play space
I’m back to agonizing over gray paint colors, which is driving me a little crazy. Why spend three days second‑guessing paint swatches when the painting needs to be finished by Saturday? Still, I keep testing samples on the wall, debating undertones, and picturing how each option will read in natural light versus artificial light. It’s amazing how a single shade can change the whole feel of a room.
Between that and supervising the kids through camps, playtime, and small adventures, the week felt full but good. There were sleepy mornings, messy toy explosions, and a lot of small, ordinary moments that make the chaos worthwhile: watching the littlest get absorbed by an aquarium, corraling two kids mid-escape, or finding delight in a silly duo dressed like Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Renovation life has its moments of humor and frustration. I snapped photos of things I needed to remember — a diverter I tried to replace, a peek through exposed walls, and fixtures that required a second trip to the store. Those pictures helped, even if I still came home with the wrong part once.
By the end of the week I was counting down to quiet: the peace of having the house back to ourselves, a kitchen that’s finally usable without obstacle, and the freedom to do ordinary things on a whim. Until then, we’ll keep living between paint chips, toolboxes, and the small, lively moments that fill our days.
