I had to share this recipe. Clean Simple Eats sent me their Mint Cookie protein powder along with a Shamrock Shake recipe. While brand recipes are a great starting point, they sometimes include extra ingredients that raise the calorie count unnecessarily. I simplified the original, keeping the flavor but trimming calories and unnecessary extras.

The Ingredients for this Mint Chocolate Shake

In the original recipe, Clean Simple Eats includes a small amount of mint chocolate chip cookie butter. Although it contributes calories, half a tablespoon didn’t seem to add much flavor, so I left it out. I also substituted the recommended vanilla Halo Top with the mint chocolate chip variety when vanilla wasn’t available — the mint ice cream works very well here.

To brighten the mint flavor, I added a dash of mint extract. For the milk base, I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of cashew milk because almond milk is what I had on hand and it keeps the shake light.

I skipped the mint Oreo. For my weight-loss goals, keeping tempting packaged cookies out of the pantry helps me stay on track. Finally, I increased the ice to give the shake a thicker, frosty texture. If you have a high-powered blender, extra ice can significantly increase the volume and give you a more satisfying, milkshake-like consistency.

Can you drink this shake and lose weight?

Yes. I’m a big fan of using protein shakes for weight loss. They make it easier to hit protein goals and stay within daily calories while still enjoying a treat. In my own journey I lost 20 lbs over six months and protein shakes were a helpful part of that plan.

Do you have to have the Mint Cookie protein powder?

Not necessarily. If you have mint extract and mint Halo Top, you can use a chocolate protein powder and still get a very similar flavor.
