Lori Taylor, founder of The Produce Mom, serves as an ambassador for OptUP. Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet often takes encouragement — OptUP makes healthy shopping easier and more enjoyable.
Kroger has simplified following those “eat more fruits and veggies” resolutions with its OptUP app. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s user-friendly and engaging. OptUP helps you make healthier choices by offering clear nutrition ratings and product suggestions based on your Kroger Plus Card purchase history. Think of it as a personal shopping assistant focused on better-for-you options.
How Easy?
Healthy eating doesn’t always feel easy, but OptUP aims to change that. After downloading the app and signing in with your Kroger account, you’ll see an “OptUP Score.” This single number (0–1000) reflects the overall healthfulness of your purchases over the previous eight weeks. A higher score means you’ve chosen healthier items, and if your score is lower, the app suggests alternative products to help you improve next time.

To make decisions quick and visual, OptUP uses a color system for product choices. Green indicates the healthiest picks, yellow means moderate, and red marks less healthy options. Fresh fruits and vegetables typically appear in green, providing an immediate cue to include more produce in your cart.
Shop Healthier, Be Healthier
In the Purchased section you can review health scores and dietary tags for items you’ve bought. Scores are calculated from ingredient lists and nutritional analysis, helping you understand which purchases are supporting your goals. If an item isn’t in your purchase history, use the Search and Scan features to check its score quickly.
Some product scores can be surprising and eye-opening. When a favorite product scores lower than expected, OptUP offers “Better for You” alternatives, including high-scoring fruits and vegetables. You can save preferred items to Favorites and add them directly to your Cart for curbside pickup or delivery, making healthier choices more convenient.

What About My Special Dietary Concerns?
OptUP includes Dietary Tags to help you identify foods that match your personal needs. Tags cover a wide range of attributes, such as artificial colors and flavors, artificial sweeteners, keto-friendly, heart-healthy, high-protein, immune-supporting, contains dairy, vegan, and gluten-free. These tags make it easier to filter products that align with your diet and lifestyle.
Free Registered Dietitian Shopping Assistant
Beyond the app, Kroger has offered access to a Registered Dietitian in select markets, providing live guidance to help you shop smarter. A dietitian can work with you to meet your personal nutrition goals and help you navigate product choices. For example, OptUP previously provided an opportunity to schedule a free 30-minute personal shopping appointment at participating Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee stores through February 28, 2019. Check the OptUP app for current availability and details in your area.
Maintain your healthy eating goals throughout the year by downloading OptUP from your device’s app store. The app is designed to make healthier shopping straightforward: clear scores, visual cues, personalized tags, helpful alternatives, and convenient ways to save and purchase the items you choose. With OptUP, small changes at checkout can add up to a bigger impact on your overall diet and wellbeing.
