Emily: Welcome back. Today’s guest is Beth Skinner Jasinski. We’ll explore her cannabis journey and how it helped with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder while supporting intuition and mindfulness. Beth, thanks for joining us.

Beth: Thank you for having me.

Emily: Tell us what led you to cannabis.

Beth: I first tried cannabis at about 39, around 17 years ago. I was a fitness instructor and feeling anxious about a family trip to Disney World. I didn’t want to rely on prescription sedatives. A student offered me cannabis, and it eased my anxiety and transformed the trip. From there I researched and began experimenting with THC and CBD; today I use CBD daily for baseline anxiety and THC for occasional events, relaxation, and mindfulness. Both have improved my mood and outlook.

Emily: Do you remember that first experience?

Beth: I do—I tried it on the plane and slept through the flight. As someone who’s very empathic and sensitive to others’ stress, it dissolved the worry I usually bring into travel.

Emily: How did you research and find the right products?

Beth: I relied on a friend at first, then online resources and a local store that asked about my symptoms and made recommendations. I also learned how to make cannabis-infused oils and recipes, which helped me personalize dosing and use.

Emily: How has cannabis changed your daily life?

Beth: The change has been significant. Daily CBD helped me start a business during COVID and prevented me from becoming immobilized by anxiety or depression. It helps me take necessary steps when I’d have previously felt stuck. Cannabis also supports mindful eating—I’m more aware of hunger cues and don’t automatically overeat. It’s helped with motivation, willpower, and consistency in fitness.

Emily: Many worry cannabis leads to laziness or excessive eating, but your experience shows a different side.

Beth: Yes. Being mindful about consumption matters. Cannabis can help you pay attention to how your body feels, and from that place you make better choices—whether that’s during a workout or choosing what to eat.

Emily: How do you introduce the topic with clients and friends?

Beth: I usually gauge people’s comfort level. While I share my personal use and recommend knowledgeable local shops, I avoid overstepping by giving medical advice. Still, I’ve been surprised by how many people have their own positive stories—stigma is changing, especially with legalization in New York.

Emily: What’s next for you?

Beth: I’m building a mindfulness course that helps people manage weight and stay in shape through awareness-based habits. As cannabis becomes more accepted, I plan to integrate it as a tool for supporting mindful choices and overall well-being.

Emily: That combination of mindfulness and cannabis sounds promising. Where can people find your course?

Beth: Visit my website, BethFitPersonalTrainer.com.

Emily: Final rapid questions: what are you most proud of?

Beth: Overcoming anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder to live a full, active life is my greatest accomplishment.

Emily: How would life look without cannabis?

Beth: That’s hard to imagine—I’d likely be much further behind in my progress. Cannabis helped me take essential steps forward.

Emily: What advice would you give your younger self?

Beth: Be more open. Anxiety makes you fear many possibilities; opening up sooner would have helped.

Emily: If you could be remembered for one thing in the cannabis space?

Beth: I’d like to be known for showing how cannabis can support being the healthiest, fittest version of yourself—challenging the stereotype that cannabis and fitness don’t mix.
